Fandom Flakies Debut
I've got a new thing to share with you guys today! The individual brands may be already known to you, but did you knows that the makers Bee's Knees Lacquer & Night Owl Lacquer got together to create a new collaboration? They'll be having an awesome guest in each box! This box will have gorgeous flakie polishes themed after all sorts of fandoms. Available every other month on the second Friday for a week long pre-order. April's guest is Nvr Enuff Polish!
When : April 13th - 20th
Cost: $30 + shipping
*Polishes provides as press samples for review*
The theme this month is Harry Potter, and more specifically the Triwizard Tournament. Each maker got one of the 3 tasks to create a polish based on the inspiration pics. You don't have to be Potter fan to appreciate the polishes though, but it's a plus for everyone who is a fan - fandom + polish = yes please!
Night Owl Lacquer took the first task. Dragons - a charcoal base with red to gold shifting Aurora shimmer, gunmetal flakies, copper/red/gold/green crystal chameleon flakes and gold/green ultra chrome chameleon flakes
This is opaque in two coats, and don't forget the top coat to make everything glossy and those flakies pop! On coat 1 it was looking rather sheer and I guestimated a third coat would be needed, but my application tends to be on the thicker side so 2 was plenty for me
Aren't the flakies just great in this one? Totally a complex and mythical dragon hide ;)
I couldn't resist a little nail art for these, I mean, c'mon..what kind of a fan would I be??
The task was to retrieve a golden egg from a nesting momma dragon - plate used is Creative Shop Stamping 70 and the red polish is Drop Red Gorgeous from Hit the Bottle. Misc colors - MdU Black & Taupe, Night Owl Lacquer - Autumn Winds, BornPretty Store gold stamping polish
The egg obtained, we move on to the next part..
Nvf Enuff Polish took the second task. The Lake- a stunning sea blue base with a magical golden/blue chrome shift, turquoise micro flake, a splash of aurora pigment and linear holo! Inspired by Harry and his dive amongst the merpeople to save his friends from the second task in the Tri-Wizard tournament!!
Just 2 coats for this beauty and you'll be in love! The flakies in this one are small but gorgeous, making for one stunning blue. Cindy is still wearing this color, going on week 2 now! But then, blues are right up my alley, which means I have a lot already - but am still so thrilled with this one!
The turquoise micro flakes make this flash and sparkle!!
Any guesses on my art? Initially I was planning something complex, kind of like the inspo picture. But I quickly realized that I would need to make water slide decals to pull it off and I started dragging my feet at that point..ever since I got a new printer, I feel like it was a downgrade because the quality of decals is way down and it makes me sad. Thankfully I found an adorable stamp and made it fit!
This is my Axolotl filling in a grindylow ! I used plate Creative Shop Stamping 51 for the image, and stole a few kelp strands from plate 28. I used a couple of my NEP polishes to color in - Harmony Hills, Unicorn Poison and Centaurette.
A grindylow is a dark creature - it's smallish, has horns and a pale green skin and is technically a water demon, and Harry encounters one when he's down in the lake. Totally feel nerdy now, but this *IS* one of my fandoms!! But after the trials of the lake, one more task remains...

Bee's Knees Lacquer took the final task. The Maze-a prugly moss green with blue aurora shimmer, scattered holo, and iridescent flakes that shift every shade of the rainbow. Blue for the cup itself, red for the sparks from their wands, gold and orange for the Sphinx and Blast-ended Skrewts.
Whoa there, hold on to your box, you're gonna love this one!! And that wasn't a typo, "prugly" is totally the word used and you'll deduce the meanings, it's pretty+ugly. If prugly is not your typical gig and you're wary, then the bottle packed with colors and flakies will totally suck you in and you'll love this!
I only needed 2 coats for this one and it's really generous with the flakes, no fishing needed!
The flakes and the shimmer are so bright in the murky green background and sometimes take over, but still - at the edges you'll still catch the green, as it it's lurking in your peripheral vision. Probably just like all the creatures and tasks in the maze, hiding around a corner to pose the next challenge!
The inspo pic has a sphinx, but I seem to have not a single Egyptian themed stamping plate :(
I ended up stamping sort of a maze-like pattern, and a little splash of red sparks - during the task, sending red sparks meant the contestant was in trouble they couldn't get out of and were quitting, cuz it's dangerous and such. And then I did go for a water decal sphinx and it was so-so. I felt like I should have re-done the mani but I was at a loss on a plan B, the sphinx just had to happen! Actually, no - this WAS plan B. Plan A was a cackling lord Voldemort hiding behind a bush with the Triwizard cup as bait. Yeah..no way I was pulling that off hahah!
Maybe I just need to source some professional quality decals and that will solve all my woes when it comes to fandom art! But I did end up with take 2 - but I combined all 3 of the polishes
Dragons + dragons, The Lake + merpeople, and The Maze with a beautiful Triwizard cup and some creepy trees.
Mark your calendar and be sure to pick the box up and show support to this new flakie collaboration!
