Baroness X - The Alchemist
I am back with another post, and this one is packed with pictures so better jump in and see what's coming very very soon!
*Polishes were provided as press samples for review*
The Alchemist Collection will be available 10/21/17, noon PST
Full Size set - $40.00
Mini Set (8 ml) - $24.00 (20 sets available)
I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to swatch these polishes, because Baroness X always makes awesome things! In addition to unique polishes, there's a number of nail care products, and I actually use the matte swatchers' balm in all of my pics ;) But today we're looking at polish!!
Soul of the World ($11.00) - royal blue jelly with pink to gold to green shifting shimmer, unicorn pigment, holo flakies and holo pigment
Given the nature of the jelly type finish, it seems to be on the sheer side - but given the amount of shimmer packed into these babies, I used just 2 coats for my swatches with 3/4 of the polishes. I'll say that's impressive, given the length of my nails, the state of overlays on some, and pretty much a lack of VNL in the pics!! Don't forget top coat for shine and durability ;)
The pink shimmer was the most prominent shift while I wore this polish, but you can see the hint of green peeking through at the cuticles
I would consider it more of a cornflower blue rather than royal, but with anything shifty - your lighting situation definitely affects what hues are coming out, and in some cases it did look a lot darker on me and the pink contrasting shimmer was super obvious
The little flakie and holo particles add more sparkle to this color!
And of course I had to sneak in nail art..can never leave anything alone, lol!
Stamping plate used from Bundle Monster - Happily Never After XL-192, with black, white and gold polish
Moving on to the next color...
Philosopher's Stone ($11.00) - emerald (almost teal) jelly base with gold to green to teal shifting flakie shimmer with metallic gold flecks and holo pigment
Omg what a perfect color! The emerald and the shimmer just took my breath away when I opened my package - as a May baby, I'm obviously drawn towards green gem colors and this was so beautiful to wear :D
This is the one jelly that I wanted more coverage for, and..well..to slather more of the gorgeous shimmer on my nails, so I did use 3 coats for the swatches
This stayed mostly emerald looking for me, but you can see the teal shift coming out at the cuticle line, and you can see it in the bottle pictures at the very edges
It may be too soon to say this - but imagine this color for the upcoming holiday manis! It would make an excellent Christmas tree green, and the gold flecks are like pre-lit lights!
For my art, I did go with trees..but more of a falling leaves variety, using aqua and black stamping polish (MdU) and Lovely Leaves 02 from UberChic Beauty
Ready for some more?
Elixir of Life ($11.00) - Deep fuchsia red leaning jelly with shimmer that shifts from purple to deep red to fiery orange, metallic golden flakies and holo pigment
Would you look at this stunner...the color shifts are crazy awesome!! Pinks and reds aren't colors I gravitate towards but I thoroughly enjoyed wearing this around, and at just 2 coats!! I think the bottle really captures more of the shifts - fuchsia to red, and the line of gold at the bottom.
This color will be a LE release, so grab it up if it's on your wishlist!
Really, the gold flakies are like those fancy gold leaf sprinklings on something that's already epic!
I was a bit stumped on nail art for this..the color was too good to cover up!
I used a handful or autumn looking colors and the Lovely Leaves 02 plate from UberChic again. Colors are gold, orange, brown, red and white. The red was only used on the pinkie and it didn't stand out much..cuz it was blending in with the red shift in the polish!
And we're at the home stretch now, final polish reveal!
Language of the Universe ($11.00) - berry colored jelly with blue to berry to red shifting shimmer with silver holo flakies and holo pigment
Oh man..this color has so much going on in it! It's like a galaxy in a bottle. Or on your nails..with very minimal art required.
Like the majority, I just needed 2 coats to fall in love with this concoction. The blue shimmer is just awesome, I feel like I'm rocking a radial gradient on my nails with zero effort, and that's saying a lot because I fail at radial gradients.
This is another LE color - don't delay if you're planning on shopping during the release!
I am most pleased with this set of pics, I feel like I have a decent representation of the polish, which is so important when trying to show everything its got!
But trust me, it's better irl because my lightbox eats holo, so you end up seeing silver dots where rainbows actually live
I'll pretend that I used silver on purpose for my stamping...when in reality it was super holo, as I was trying the "new" pigment stamping trick. I used holo powder, black stamping polish, and plate Gothic 05 from MoYou London.
And that concludes this post! Hope you've made up your mind and are ready to shop this coming Saturday! 10/21/17 at 12 PM PST
