Stamping Saturday: Doomfire berries

Stamping Saturday has arrived, and I've been slacking! So far 2016 is off to a slow start as far as my nails go. I made  this mani last weekend but didn't get around to posting it. Partially because I was getting over a cold and just wanted to veg all day and not do anything, and partially because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to capture and show off Doomfire well enough.

What's Doomfire you ask? It's that bottle of magic I have in my hand, made by the Baroness X. Yup, it's the same brand that was featured in the mermaid mani earlier in the month. Doomfire is a custom polish made for the Baroness X fan group, using the elusive unicorn pee pigment. Simply Nailogical did a video about this pigment on YouTube, it's a fun watch if you're interested!
I really wanted to try Doomfire over a purple base, and one of my most favorite purples is an OPI color called Do You Have This Color in Stock-holm? It's a long name, but a beautiful shade! I used 2 coats for the photo below.

Now for Doomfire. It has a purple jelly base, so applying it on it's own would take a lot of coats to reach the level of opaqueness I want. Plus, considering how hard it is to get this pigment - "unicorn pee"- it makes sense to layer this beauty over other colors to make it last longer. The pigment itself is color shifting, I've mostly seen it be the glowy red shimmer on my nails, but it ranges into yellow and green as well.

I applied just one coat of Doomfire over the purple cream. As lighting plays a big role in what colors come out to play, so would using different color bases. I'd love to try this over black next, as well as navy!
This shot above was taken outside, and is a very good representation of what the color looked like on my the majority of the time.

All these base pics, when am I going to get to the stamping part?? Soon!
I was really happy with the above shot, taken in lightbox, as it shows the yellow and green color shifts at the edges of the nails. I hope I did Doomfire justice! It's gorgeous in real life. But as it was a group custom, if you want to get your hands on it, I'd suggest joining the group (The X Army) as it might re-appear in the future. In the meantime, Dulcinea is the closes polish in the shop - it has extra flakies added but the same base.

Stamping is done with a brand new clear stamper, so it's easier to see where the image is going. Maybe I'll find some motivation to do a post about it! Polish is white MdU, and the little red berries are Bonita Sweet Berry Red.

It looks matted but it's really not, it's just the indirect lighting. Shifty pigments are shifty ;)
The holly berries are from plate MR-03 which I got on ebay, and the leaves are from Y005, from BornPretty Store. My BPS 10% off code is KOIG10, works on full priced items.
