Bee's Knees Lacquer - 4th Anniversary
I hope you're super excited for this collection to release from Bee's Knees Lacquer! Maybe you like Fear Street, the inspiration for these beauties, or maybe you've been following BKL and were anticipating the anniversary release (and a sale!) -but even if you're new, it's a good time to pick up a lot of pretties for your collection!
*Polishes provided as press samples for review*
This is a bittersweet anniversary not only for Sarah, the maker behind BKL, but also for so many fans and customers, as BKL plans to close its doors and likely not have more milestones to celebrate (for now, we hope it isn't truly permanent!)
So here are the important deets - this collection has 11 polishes, 2 contain unicorn pee (UP) and therefore will not be eligible for the sitewide 25% sale. However, between the new polishes, a huge respawn list, and bath and both products - you should have no problem filling up your carts!
Sale starts 9/24 at 7pm EDT and will have a week long preorder so it closes on 10/2 at 3 am EDT
September group customs will still be available for purchase until 9/30 so you can snag those if you haven't yet - see blog post for swatches
The Witch Made Me Do It - a pea green polish with glowy green iridescent flakes; $12
Swatches show 3 coats + top coats; this is a jelly base polish and there's no way to mask the VNL without undies, and while this looks yellow on my nails and kind of like egg yolk, don't discount from being a good topper!
And here's the effect this has being used as a topper over Bathsheba (creme) Do you see the witchcraft going on in the bottle itself?? The bottles are usually cropped for final pics but they tend to show off the "extreme" shifts rather well because of their rounded shape and lighting
Dark Secrets - a blackened olive polish with silver to blue iridescent flakes; $12
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; I was tricked by this one! I swear in the bottle it looks like a team polish but that's likely just how the base and the flakes interact, because you definitely see the blue-ish flash there but the jelly base is more murky and hard to pin down a color for
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; this is another jelly based polish and I still had a bit of VNL showing, aside from that it's beautiful and perfect for fall
I layered it over a creme (Soul) base and it works awesome, just as I suspected!
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; this is one of those "I'm speechless, just buy it" kinds of polishes. This is one of my top picks from the whole collection!
While technically not a swatch, I ended up stamping spooky bats over this just because it's such a great background
She Reaches From Beyond the Grave - a blackened indigo full of green to blue sibling UP; $15 [excluded from sale]
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; this is another top pic! It actually looks really sparkly in the sun. I had this on when I had to run out to the store for something and it's so mesmerizing, I stared at my nails at every stop light lol you know how polishes just look way better in the car for some reason!
She'll Follow You Until You're Dead - a mustard olive, which Sarah is calling "molive", full of OG UP (red to green); $15 [excluded from sale]
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; I have to say, I like the name "molive" and it makes sense! There's definitely a category of people that like polishes a little on the prugly side, but mustards are also a fall kind of color!
You Were My Monster - a taupe polish with rich indigo to purple shimmer; $12
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; I have no words, Sarah's shimmers are always so unique and unexpected but I end up liking them every time! There's no way you can say this taupe is boring!
We're All Cursed - a dusty purple with aqua to purple shimmer; $12
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; I was kind of mad at myself that I decided to swatch this one first - I liked it so much that I wished it was the last one so I could keep it as a mani! The color is beautiful on its own, but the extra shimmer make it wow, I know I'm not the only one that's a sucker for these shimmers and specifically this color family!
The last 3 come with a little disclaimer about an ingredient: the metallic flakes (super duper beautiful imo) are a little finnicky, as Sarah put it. As such, they seem to stick to each other and give some texture, but a good layer of top coat levels them out and it's not an issue. They've been formulated since June and Sarah's been checking on them for signs of curling and this is the only thing to note on the flakies as launch approaches. I hope you show them some love, I was drooling a little over them eheh
Full Moon Rises Before Nightfall - a blue to purple pastel multichrome full of ruby red flakes; $13
Swatches show 3 coats + top coat; I think the first thing I noticed in these polishes (there's 3) is the flakes, and there's so many of them that I initially thought that was the polish color but no, double checking the info it actually says "blue to purple pastel multichrome" !
The Fruits of the Land - a pink to red pastel multichrome full of emerald green flakes; $13
Swatches show 2 coats + top coat; I'm gonna go ahead and say it - the base color *may* stain, so make sure to not skip base coat! This is yet another shimmer + flakie combo and I'm loving it! It kind of gives me mermaid/ocean vibes
I Am No Lamb - a rose gold to green pastel multichrome full of sapphire blue flakes; $13
Swatches show 2 coats + top coat; if you look close, you can spot the rose gold in the base color, but it's almost silvered in my pictures, but the pastel green and the flakes really stand out and put this in my top favorite from this collection <3
These look amazing :-D
